NICE bit of fundraising at Eden Boys’ family fun day!

The sun shone on our community fun day recently which raised thousands of pounds for local charity NICE.

Eden Boys’ School, Bolton invited the whole community along to our Family Fun Day event to help raise money to be split between Bolton charity NICE and our own school development fund.

A whole host of stalls and activities in school and outdoors on the school field helped to raise just over £5,000.

Activities included traditional games such as Splat The Rat, funfair rides, Zorb balls and inflatables, face painting and cupcake decorating. The Sponge The Teacher stall proved very popular with pupils!

Pupils in every year group were encouraged to take responsibility for organising activities. Year 10 pupils, for example, arranged a sports tournament, and boys from Year 9 organised a range of games.

There were plenty of stalls and tasty treats on offer at the Eden Boys’ School family fun day

The Neighbourhood Investment in Community Enterprises (NICE) is a Bolton charity that has been working since 2012 to alleviate financial hardship by providing recycled furniture, clothes and other household items to those in need. As part of the Fighting Poverty in Bolton campaign, the charity intends to use the money raised by our school to help set up a daily mobile food bank that will be sustained through a network of supermarkets, schools, businesses and mosques.

Martin McLoughlin, CEO and founder of NICE, commented, “It’s our aim to give local people who rely on food banks more choice and dignity by taking food and recycled furniture to them when they need it the most. The money raised at Eden Boys’ School’s fun day will certainly help us to set up our mobile food bank service. We are so grateful to the pupils, staff and parents of Eden Boys’ School for their support.”

The family fun day at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton celebrated the recent ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating

Our Principal Shabir Fazal said, “We’ve had a fabulous year at Eden Boys’ School. Our pupils have performed very well and achieved so much individually, and the school as a whole was graded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted earlier this month.

“Our community fun day aimed to celebrate the school’s achievements and encourage our school community to come together to have fun while raising money for a deserving local charity. For our summer term to have ended with us raising over £5,000 is the icing on the cake of a great year.

“Thank you to our parent council for their role in organising the event, to our very supportive parents, and, of course, our pupils for working hard to make the Family Fun Day a huge success.”
