Caring pupils help the vulnerable in Bolton with winter gift project

Pupils and staff across both of Star Academies schools in Bolton are supporting the most vulnerable members of their communities by spreading kindness and tackling food poverty.

Kind-hearted pupils and staff at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton and The Olive School, Bolton are working to bring comfort to Bolton’s vulnerable population as part of a special campaign of winter giving.

As part of their activities, pupils joined with other Star Academies schools to take part in ‘Food for All Week’. From 6 to 12 December, all 30 schools across the Star Academies multi-academy trust distributed thousands of food parcels and meals to those experiencing food poverty.

The pupils at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton contributed by providing 617 meals to those in need in the community. The number ‘617’ represents one meal for every pupil in the school. Meanwhile at The Olive School, Bolton, the school distributed hundreds of freshly cooked hot meals, drinks and desserts to local people who are vulnerable, isolating or homeless.

Pupils, parents and staff at The Olive School, Bolton are also donating toys, gifts and toiletry items as part of the appeal. The donations will be used to make gift hampers that will be distributed to charities, local care homes, community groups, and the emergency services.

The school community at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton are also raising funds to provide 38 gift hampers as well as charity donations which will be distributed to those in needs across five local charities.

Sue Gill-Daintith, Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton, said:

“During this year’s Winter Gift campaign our pupils have worked with incredible drive to help Bolton’s vulnerable population. “We are incredible grateful for the support of our parents and the whole school community who have all helped to demonstrate the power of giving during times of difficulty. This has been an ambitious project, but hopefully one that can make a real difference to the lives of many during this difficult festive period.”

Sabina Saeed, Principal at The Olive School, Bolton, said that this year’s Winter Gift Programme had helped pupils understand the power of kindness and how their small actions could help people who were facing adversity.  She said:

“We are incredibly fortunate to be part of a very special community of pupils, parents and staff. Our whole school benefits from these wonderful relationships. Our Winter Gift Programme was a chance for us to really show pupils how their small acts of kindness can help to spread joy to people in need. The campaign was an opportunity to strengthen connections in the community and reinforce our position as a school that sits at the very heart of the community it serves.”

The annual Festive Winter Gift Programme is part of a wider programme of giving and thanks that takes place across the 30 schools that are all part of the Star Academies multi-academy trust.
