Eden Boys’ School, Bolton retains its ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating

Eden Boys’ School, Bolton has preserved its ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating following an inspection at the school on 3 and 4 July 2023.

The report, published by Ofsted this week, confirms that Eden Boys’ School, Bolton continues to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas. It was the school’s second Ofsted inspection, with its last visit taking place in 2017.

‘Pupils flourish in this school’, according to the report which lavishes praise on the secondary school and highlights many positive aspects of pupils’ experiences and outcomes.

Ofsted was fulsome in its praise for the school and recognised that ‘pupils consider it a privilege to attend Eden Boys’ School, Bolton. They recognise that they receive a high-quality education.’ A culture of excellence has been cultivated at the school, according to the report, with inspectors finding that ‘leaders are committed to providing a high quality education that addresses social disadvantage’.

Remarking on the quality of education, the inspection team observed that ‘leaders place no limits on what pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), can achieve.’ The report also commended the quality of teaching (‘Expert teachers explain new concepts clearly. They skilfully link new learning to what pupils already know.’) and the high attainment of its pupils (‘Pupils build a rich body of knowledge in each subject. They achieve very highly.’).

During their visit, Ofsted’s inspection team praised pupils’ behaviour and the learning environment. They concluded that ‘the school is an oasis of calm. Pupils’ sensible behaviour ensures that learning is seldom disrupted.’ The inspectors also praised the school’s leadership, with the report surmising that ‘leaders are committed to providing a high quality education that addresses social disadvantage’ and that leaders ‘enrich pupils’ educational experience through carefully chosen trips and visits.’

As well as achieving academically, the school has also been lauded for its wide-ranging initiatives to support pupils’ personal development and leadership skills (‘Pupils embrace leadership opportunities such as representing their peers on the student council. They are exceptionally well-prepared to take their place in modern Britain.’), and its work to inspire pupils to serve their local community (‘Pupils strive to serve their local community. They develop a strong sense of responsibility towards improving the lives of others.’).

Mr Arshad Ashraf, Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton, said:

“We are incredibly proud of this recognition, which reflects the outstanding educational experience we provide for our pupils.

“We are particularly delighted that the report acknowledges the respectful behaviour of our pupils, their high levels of attainment and the commitment they have to their local community.

“Thank you to our wonderful staff who are just as inspiring as the pupils they teach; this outcome would not be possible without their unwavering commitment, along with the support of our parents, carers and governors.”

“We will continue to nurture our pupils to reach their potential and inspire them to be tomorrow’s leaders.”
