Celebrations for Eden Boys’ School after exceptional GCSE results

  • 72% of pupils were awarded grades 9-5 in English & Maths, up from 64% in 2019.
  • 87% of pupils were awarded grades 9-4 in English & Maths, up from 84% in 2019.

The whole school community at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton is celebrating exceptional GCSE results after pupils sat exams for the first time since 2019.

Pupils have valiantly overcome two years of disruption to their education, following periods of lockdowns, self isolation and illness. The school has seen a great increase in the number of pupils achieving a ‘strong pass’ (grade 9 to 5) in English and Maths, which rose from 64% in 2019 to 72% this year.

School staff and parents have today been celebrating with pupils at the school as they progress onto the next stage of their education or training.

Zayan Azad was the school’s top performer, with ten grade 9s (the highest possible grade), along with two grade 8s, allowing him to move on to Biology and Chemistry along with either Psychology or Maths.

Thanking staff at the school, Zayan said:

“All the teachers and support staff have helped me so much. They showed me the steps I needed to take to achieve my dreams and, at each step, I was encouraged to go a little bit further.

“I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me to achieve these grades and for helping me to grow into the person I am today.”

Fellow pupil Abdullah Anas also came away delighted with his results, achieving seven grade 9s and four grade 8s. Abdullah’s next step will see him move on to Bolton School where he intends to study Medicine.

Abdullah said:

“After the disruption of the past two years, it has made me even more proud of the results I’ve received. I’ve been nervous waiting for my results, so being able to see all these friendly faces has helped. I’m just so happy I came to Eden Boys’ School. I’ve always felt the teachers and staff were right behind me helping me to be the best that I possibly can be. I couldn’t have asked for more from my school.”

One pupil who has exceeded expectations is Ibnul Hossain, who came to the UK as a primary school pupil, improving his English year on year. Ibnul has achieved 12 GCSEs at grade 5 or above with nine grade 8s or above. Ibnul now intends to continue his studies at Bolton Sixth Form where he intends to study Chemistry, Computer Science and Maths.

Ibnul said:

“If you had told me at the beginning of Year 7 that I would go on to achieve these results or to develop the confidence that I have, I would never have believed you. I’m just so grateful to all the teachers, staff and my parents and friends for helping me to grow and develop into the person I am today.”

Sue Gill-Daintith, Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton, said: “With these excellent results, I don’t think we should forget that our pupils, along with all those receiving their results around the country today, have faced more disruption and uncertainty than any previous cohort of students.

“They conducted themselves admirably and have always put their education first and shown so much resilience. Equally, our staff have been unwavering in their support, despite the unknown territory that the pandemic presented them with.

“I would also like to thank the parents who have also had so much to overcome and have always given our pupils the best support. I hope they are as proud of their children as we are today.”
