Eden Boys’ School, Bolton pupils celebrate GCSE results day

Pupils from Eden Boys’ School, Bolton are celebrating their GCSE results, after overcoming more than a year of pandemic disruption.

Pupils and staff from the school faced a difficult year as they worked to counter disruption caused by lockdown, periods of self-isolation and illness. Exams were cancelled this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Exam boards issued qualifications based on grades determined by teachers following tests and assessments completed in school.

Despite these challenges, teachers say that pupils at the school worked hard to secure excellent results and demonstrated extraordinary commitment throughout the year. Today, pupils are celebrating their achievements as they collect their results and take their next steps towards their careers of choice.

In Year 10, Saim Chatha achieved three grade 9s in his early entry subjects, making him the highest performing pupil in his year group. Buoyed on by an impressive set of results in Year 10, Saim showed a level of dedication to his studies in Year 11 that continued to impress his teachers and peers alike.

Never one to settle for second best, Saim pushed himself tirelessly to achieve his best and those efforts are rewarded with a fantastic 10 grade 9s.  Saim is moving on to Runshaw College to study A levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Computer Science.

From the start of his journey at the school, teachers say that Deputy Head Boy Sharull Hossain showed determination and a commitment to always improve. When Sharull joined Eden Boys’ School, Bolton in Year 7, he was new to the country and spoke very little English. As a result, he started his journey in the lowest set. Sharull quickly mastered communicating in English and rapidly moved up through the sets, finally earning a place in the top sets across all subjects.

Sharull would always ask what he could do to get better, no matter how good his mark or grade was. His ‘never enough’ attitude to assessments and progress earned a fantastic set of GCSE results with nine grade 9s and three grade 8s.  Sharull will study A levels in Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry and Maths in September.

Khayam Rasool consistently impressed teachers with his approach to learning.  Attentive, focussed, polite and diligent, Khayam worked hard to achieve the highest results possible, with two grade 9s, eight grade 8s and one grade 5. Khayam is going to study A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at Runshaw College.

Head boy Zamry Mohamed is an award-winning public speaker, who set the bar for his peers throughout his time at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton, across all aspects of school life. Zamry maintained an exemplary record for attendance, punctuality and behaviour throughout his five years and represented the school in speaking competitions.

Zamry is an avid reader, who in his spare time loves to read and study inspirational world leaders. His thirst for knowledge and desire to be the best earned Zamry an impressive set of GCSE results, including nine grade 9s. Zamry is going on to study A levels in Modern History, Law, Politics & Government and English Literature at Runshaw College. Zamry says his choice of A level subjects, was inspired by his teachers at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton.

Sue Gill-Daintith, Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Bolton, praised pupils and staff for their hard work during a difficult year.

She said: “This year, our entire school community has worked tirelessly to ensure that pupils continue to make progress in their education.
